About the Local Area

Villasimius is a small town that comes alive during the summer months. The town provides a friendly and lively holiday base, with plenty of restaurants and bars, its streets thronged with families for the traditional evening stroll. As is the case of most 'coastal' towns, Villasimius is about 2km inland - continued invasion from the sea over the centuries pushed the Sardinian population inland. This whole area is blessed with some outstandingly beautiful long sandy beaches and crystal clear seas which are almost tropical in their brilliance.

Costa Rei
The Costa Rei consists of a long ribbon of beaches west of Villasimius, offering excellent swimming from flawless sandy beaches interspersed with secluded coves.

Porto Sa Ruxi
West of Villasimius lies the beautiful stretch of white sand known as Porto Sa Ruxi with gently shelving crystal clear waters.

Easter - Various locations
Costumes, processions and intense drama are the main ingredients of Sardinia's various festas commemorating Easter.

Sant’ Efisio - Cagliari - May
Offers a grand procession commemorating the end of the plague in 1656. It's a magical celebration of faith and folklore, the sacred and the profane.

Sagra delle Ciliege - Burcei - June
Festival celebrating the cherry harvest in the mountain village of Burcei.

Sagra delle Pesche - San Sperate - July
Peach festival held on the feast of the town’s patron saint.

Water Sports
Discover the exquisite coastline from the sea and enjoy the excellent conditions of the north east coast for windsurfing, sailing, diving, snorkelling, etc.

Boat Trips
A range of boat excursions operate from the beaches here and offer a number of trips including one to Isola di Serpentara.

Cagliari's old town
The old town stands on a dramatic hilltop site, with extensive lagoons and salt flats to each side. Take time to wander through the narrow streets to explore the old Citadel and stop at Bastione San Remy for majestic views over the city, sea and mountains beyond. With an Amphitheatre and a number of museums to visit, you can spend a whole day here and more with plenty to see and do.
