Whilst you may not think to visit Sardinia in the winter - it is a beautiful country all year-round!

During the winter, Sardinia is a beautiful destination, with fairly mild temperatures averaging around 14 degrees. There is rain from time to time, but overall it is a great way to experience an authentic, local-feeling holiday.

During the winter months, many festivals take place throughout the island. One of the most famous events is the Carnival of Mamoiada, which takes place in February and showcases the island's traditional masks and costumes. Another event worth checking out is the Sartiglia, a horse race that takes place in Oristano in February or March and is a fascinating display of horsemanship and medieval tradition.

Whilst you may not be able to swim in the sea or sunbathe, Sardinia in the winter is the ideal time to enjoy the island by foot. Walking routes along the coast are beautiful and rewarding at this time of year. If you are a fan of surfing, in the winter, Sardinia boasts some fantastic surfing, depending on the winds some beaches around the island offer some great waves.

For a city break, Cagliari is a perfect winter getaway. Blessed with regular sunshine hours and mild weather, it is the perfect condition to explore this city packed with history, culture and cuisine. The historic centre of the city is divided into four districts, Castello, Marina, Stampace and Villanova. With many landmarks, museums and a beautiful cathedral, a long weekend in Cagliari is ideal for couples looking for a winter getaway.
