Although Sardinian Places’ stronghold lies in the North, the specialist offers three hotels within the centre of the island, which it believes offers its clients an authentic taste of Sardinian life and its organic cuisine.
Mandra Edera - Abbasanta
Set in thirty hectares of its own grounds in Abbasanta - Mandra Edera - with just four rooms and eight suites - is a haven of tranquility and hospitality.
The restaurant of this country hotel offers home cooking using organic ingredients sourced directly from the farm. If inspired to want to improve their own culinary skills, Mandra Edera’s chef also runs cookery courses for their guests. To balance indulgence with activity, Mandra Edera, with a strong equine passion, offers horse-riding lessons, as well as riding excursions and trekking. Non-equestrian options include jeep trips, walking, or relaxing in the property’s pool, Jacuzzi or solarium. In the vicinity are two of the most important archeological sites on the island, the Loca Nuraghe and the Santa Cristina. In early July, the annual S’Ardia horse race in the nearby village of Sédilo is an event not to be missed.
4* Hotel Su Gologone - Oliena
Hotel Su Gologone stands surrounded by oak, olive and juniper trees below the towering limestone hills that range from Nuoro to the sea. The hotel is built in local style and whilst some rooms overlook the gardens, most have views over the forest-covered mountains. Su Gologone has an excellent restaurant, which attracts gastronomes from all over the island. The focus is on traditional Sardinian specialties, a sample dish on the menu being “porchettu” - pork roasted on juniper wood spits to add flavour. Also on offer is a variety of homemade pastas, breads and pastries, as well as a choice of wines, including the very good local Oliena wine.
4* Hotel Su Lithu - Bitti
Perched above the small town of Bitti and run by the Giovanetti family, Hotel Su Lithu emphasises the traditional way of life. The fifteen spacious rooms all enjoy views out over the valley or the surrounding park. The hotel’s restaurant offers fine cuisine using fresh-flavoured local produce coming directly from the family’s farm at Sa Preta Ruia, which guests are also able to visit. For those who wish to explore further afield, the hotel can also arrange excursions to nearby archaeological sites or other places of interest.
