26 February 2009 - Sardinian Places - Press Office
Sardinia’s coastline is one of the finest in the Mediterranean and offers character through contrast – dramatic limestone mountains drop to secluded coves in the east, the west is rich in powdery sand dunes and the north and south are abundant in golden beaches.
Sardinian Places offers specially selected ‘Family Collection’ properties and the beaches being exceptionally clean and gently shelving, add to the overall child-friendly ethos of this Italian island.
A good range of watersports is available on most of Sardinia’s coasts during the summer, including waterskiing and windsurfing. Porto Pollo, near Palau in the north is a favourite spot for surfers, as well as the place for kite-surfing. Sailing is another popular pursuit, particularly around Alghero, the Costa del Sud, the Costa Smeralda and the Maddalena archipelago. Sardinia is also one of the Mediterranean's best locations for diving.
Sardinian Places product manager, Amandine Blanchard, selects her three top beaches across the island:
Baia Chia (Chia)- described as one of the best beaches of the southern coast, Baia Chia takes the form of a perfect arc of sandy dunes, complete with a small lagoon, a Spanish tower, red cliffs and green hills. Sardinian Places offers the semi-detached house, Casa dei Fiori, which, complete with its own garden, is only a two-minute walk to this beach.
Spiaggia del Principe - This is an off the beaten track beach, (not signposted and accessed via a dirt track), hidden in the north east of the island between Porto Cervo and Capriccioli. Sheltered, with white sands and crystal clear waters, this beach is typical of the Costa Smeralda with its granite rock formations. Sardinian Places offers Lu Triuzzu - a new addition to their Premium Collection – a 15-minute drive to Spiaggia del Principe. This three-bedroom house was built around an existing rock, which now forms the centrepiece to this unique hideaway retreat.
Spiaggia le Bombarde – Offering the best of both worlds, this beach can be found in the northwest between Alghero and Capo Caccia. White sands, clear water and views across Alghero lie on the one side; a rugged coastline and Capo Caccia on the other - all backed by pine trees and favoured by the locals, with bar and restaurant facilities on site. Sardinian Places properties in the area include the three-bedroom Casa delle Palme, which occupies an elevated hillside position and is set in its own gardens, accommodating its private pool.
Sardinian Places offers 7-nights at Casa dei Fiori from £753 (property price for the week). Flights and car hire can be quoted, if not booked independently.
