Sardinia & Corsica

Despite being our closest Mediterranean island, Corsica remains a mystery to many in the UK. Yet, with a mix of incredible beaches, breathtaking mountain scenery, and thriving harbour-towns, this beautiful island has so many different layers to discover and shouldn't remain a mystery for long...

A huge part of the appeal of Corsica is the variety it offers, in landscape, in cuisine, in accommodation, and in the sheer amount of things to see and do; and because of this it appeals to people of all ages. If you're after a family holiday, the beaches are generally child-safe, or if it's a quiet retreat you're after there are so many hidden spots, be they in the beach areas or in the cool of the mountains. But of course Corsica also provides extraordinary amounts of history and culture, from Neolithic menhirs in the Sartenais, to the citadel towns dotted around the coastline, and, of course, the heady mix of Italian and French cuisines in the country's many fine restaurants and bars. And did we mention the delicious allure of the Mediterranean climate and the fact that Corsica is only just across the water?

Southern Corsica

Also known as L'Extreme Sud, this is Horseshoe bays of white sand and crystal blue waters, sophisticated resorts with a hint of Italian flair and breathtaking harbour towns, L’Extrême Sud is a dreamer’s paradise of sun and sea on the southernmost tip of Corsica.

A chic cosmopolitan resort, Porto Vecchio has as its backdrop the spearing needles of the Col de Bavella. From its shadows arises the fortress of the quaint old town; the ancient streets surrounding it now home to designer shops and restaurant terraces. Just a short hop from Sardinia at Corsica’s “lands end”, sits Bonifacio. Its rich history offers visitors a fascinating base from which to explore the south of the island, with ramparts perched high on the limestone plateau giving it a timeless charm.

How it works

The ferry rides between these two wonderful islands are short (approximately 50 minutes), frequent (4 crossings a day) and relatively inexpensive - from around £80 for two passengers and a car. All of which means there are a number of options open to you. You could combine a week's stay in a Sardinian villa with a few days in a hotel in either Bonifacio, Porto Vecchio or Ajaccio, or indeed a hotel stay in either country. Or you might simply wish to spend a day and a night in Corsica during your stay in Sardinia. Whatever your choice, we certainly recommend making the most of the close proximity of these two wonderful Mediterranean islands. Please call us to talk through the options.
