The north east of Sardinia is home to the Costa Smeralda, probably the most well known part of the island, with a long stretch of white powder-sand beaches, crystal clear water and chic resorts. Away from the coast, the lush macchia and granite-covered hillsides spill down to traditional market towns and hidden coves.
The Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast), a 10km long stretch of coast situated between the bay of Arzachena and the Gulf of Cugnana, is one of Sardinia’s most famous and outstandingly beautiful areas. The north east also possesses some picture book villages, such as San Pantaleo with its charming piazza, not to mention some dramatic inland scenery dominated by huge granite outcrops.
The Costa Smeralda, or Emerald Coast, is a stretch of 10km situated between the bay of Arzachena and the Gulf of Cugnana and is perhaps the best-known corner of Sardinia.
