As a specialist tour operator with an on going commitment to sustainable tourism, we felt a carbon offset scheme was the next step for us and initially set up our own carbon offset scheme for The Gambia Experience. On the success of this we have now expanded the scheme to our other brands excluding Great Escapes. Primarily monies collected will fund projects in The Gambia but we are currently researching potential projects in other destinations for future initiatives.
We are committed to developing Sustainable Tourism programmes, working with the Tourism Industry Carbon Offset Service (TICOS) a specialist in this area, to offer our customers the opportunity to contribute to a project that will help offset the carbon emissions from flights, and benefit the environment, host communities in The Gambia and other destinations in the future.
TICOS have set up a Community Tree Planting Project in The Gambia; the trees are grown on the Gambia is Good (GIG) community farm, which is part of a unique and highly successful project to improve local farmer's livelihoods.
In addition to this, we have also pledged to support TICOS' newly signed off, Gambia Mayon Turbo Stove Project.
