There was a real wow factor as you drive to Casa Qandra as you leave the coast and head inland into the mountains. The property is a lovely hideaway situated in really pretty grounds, which are well tended to by the property’s owner, Ugo, who lives next door. Ugo keeps himself to himself, but kindly leaves fresh fruit, vegetables, or herbs from the garden in a basket by your door...

Pizzeria Ichnos

For the best pizzas in the area (and many say outside of Naples!) visit Silva and Renzo at the Ichnos pizzeria in San Pantaleo. The atmosphere is very informal and the furniture basic but the pizzas are to die for! The pizzeria is on the main street in San Pantaleo and you will need to book in July and August.

Villa Description

Casa Qandra is an authentic Sardinian dwelling set in extensives gardens, in the countryside between Arzachena and the quaint village of San Pantaleo. The setting is a real jewel – the sprawling grounds are filled with rock formations, Mediterranean plants, olive and mimosa trees. There are also a number of secluded spots should you wish to escape the sun for a little while or simply enjoy long leisurely lunches under the shade of a tree. And if you enjoy cooking, you will be invited to pick your own herbs and vegetables from the garden. The cottage exudes real charm and character and great effort has been made to ensure it keeps its rustic feel, blending stylish personal touches with traditional features such as chesnut beams, whitewashed walls and wooden furniture. The owner has a collection of artwork and Spanish guitars, whilst his books and tapes remain at the guests’ disposal. The nearest beaches are very accessible and the Ca’la Somara agriturismo is within walking distance, offering food ranging from inventive vegetarian fare to roast suckling pig, the local speciality. Ugo the owner and his dog live discreetly in the annexe attached to the house, you will see him occasionally maintaining the pool and the gardens – don’t hesitate to approach him, his local knowledge is second to none and his English impeccable.
